Statement of Purpose

Bunnies on the Bayou, Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to raising and distributing funds for various charitable, educational and cultural programs that seek to improve the quality of life for individuals in our community, and promote education and awareness of individual human rights.

Our History

On a sunny Easter Sunday in 1979, a small party among friends gathered at an apartment complex on Clay Street. The word spread of the event, and the following year they set up a sound system outdoors and sent out invitations. By the mid-1980's, AIDS was taking a terrible toll and the party hosts decided to help their friends by charging an "admission" - a bag of food. By the early 1990's the party attendance had grown so large that the hosts decided to move to the new outdoor plaza at the Wortham Center downtown on Buffalo Bayou; Bunnies on the Bayou was born. Rather than food, the Bunnies began to raise money for local charities. Since that time, the event has grown to be Houston's largest annual outdoor cocktail party. Thousands of Houstonians have celebrated Easter with their friends, made new friends, and donated almost $550,000 to area charities.
